Must say I only had one 'early' start and that was at Bryness with the crossing of the Cheviots in front of me.  All others I tried to have breakfast around 8 to be away by 9, but most days that meant arriving around 4'ish.

Anyway ... back to the Spine race  O0

Are her and Paul Nelson a couple, perhaps just running partners? They've been together the whole way

I think it`s Beth Pascal but not sure if you go into results in the dropdown menu on Spine home page you should be able to check.

A quick Google shows that they run with different running clubs but who knows after the last few days they may be a couple now.

Beth Pascal set the best time-90 hrs 59 mins- in 2015 but it is a bit misleading as runners were held at various points due to very high winds. Not too sure how they worked the times out.Debbie Brupbacher managed to do 153 hrs 17 mins in 2014.No women finished in 2012.In 2013 the first woman finished in just over 7 days due to heavy snow.In 2016 Anna Buckingham and Zoe Thornburgh were joint winners of the women's race in 166 hours.

Thanks TonyK , so Miss Brupbacher's time looks like the record in as normal a year as you can get, do you think?

I think you are right.Beth Pascal would certainly have beaten 153hrs if she had not been held and I am not really sure how the organisers arrived at 90hrs 59 mins.I should imagine these were aggregate times that omitted usual rest periods.Carol should be home by midnight giving her a time of approx 112 hours or 4 days 16 hours. As far as I am aware it will be an outright record for a woman running the PW.Outright records do allow support and pacers so they will have to recognise her time.

Sarah, sure you could do the Pennine Way, just take your time. I was over 60 when I did it, I took 18 days, should have been 17 but wonderful forest view do a pick up half way along the Cheviot ridge. Watching the spine race makes me want to do it again, maybe the other way. If you read something like walking home by Simon Armitage it makes it look much less scary.

Something has happened to the trackers at Alston. Loads of people there but they have not been tracked for ages, hope they have left or are going to get ot in the next couple of minutes.

9 and 23 probably not going to make it unfortunately.
