Long Road Walks
« on: 10:21:18, 09/01/17 »
Could anyone suggest a good solid pair of shoes/boots for a long walk say around 15 days of around 25-30 miles per day often on roads..in short I am planning to walk from Surrey to Glasgow this year and rather than wear my mountain boots something softer may be better suited to the task.

Cheers Krazzy

So would I! My longest road walk, when I suffered most, was from Keld to the Tan Inn on a hot sticky day. I was supposed to meet a friend who was driving that route. He arrived after I reached the Inn. My feet were burning!

True, but I was younger and more stupider than I am now! Hopefully I learned from this experience.

I use Asics walking shoes. I've walked many 26 milers with no problems.  Just google the Asics website and it's easy to find the walking shoe range.

+1 for Asics. The inbuilt gel soles are ideal for walking on tarmac.

Have a look at Asics, New Balance, brooks and saucony. They might not intially be the popular brands that you might have heard of like Nike and Adidas but all four are trusted brands for long distance running. Get a bit of advice from specialist running shops. Trainers now have so many different fits and specifications. Also take along your walking socks when you go for a fitting. Runners tend to wear thinner socks than walkers and it can really make a difference.

I occasionally bump into some serious marathon runners at the leisure centre where I swim. They use it as a base to start and finish their training runs. All rate Asics the best.

Chose a walking shoe rather than a runner. Apparently there is a difference.
