25L daysack - what's good?
« on: 18:36:57, 18/02/17 »
Looking to downsize from my Berghaus Freeflow 30+6L.
Doesn't have to be bang-on 25L.
Must have a flow of air between back and sack  ;)
Must be able to attach hiking poles (for when not in use)
Padded hip belt would be good too.
Tried a Lowe Alpine Airzone 25 at G.O earlier which I liked.
Deuter and Osprey do nice packs too but not tried those.
Anyone have anything similar or able to recommend anything?
Thanks

A bit smaller than you said but this Berghaus Freeflow 20 might be worth considering at a bargain price of £33.03 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IMTY9AI/

If money's not a consideration there's bound to be something suitable amongst the brands you've already mentioned. Choose a couple of options to go and look at and pick the one that's most comfortable that has the features you want.

The low alpine airzone z 25, fits every requirement you list and is a great bag. The full length zips are great for finding gear from the bottom of the pack.

I was lucky and picked one up half price a couple of years back.

It's been thrown at some tough conditions including rocky scrambles and is still going strong :)

hoping to buy one of these tomorrow.
That's a real bargain. I see they also have a slightly larger Deuter on massive discount at the moment. Shame I can't possibly justify buying another rucksack.

I have an Osprey Stratos 24 which has a ventilated back just like the Berghaus models. I have to say I like it very much - you can probably pick them up cheap now as they've just released a new model for 2017

I am also thinking about a rucksack of about this size. I like the Osprey idea of "Stow on the Go" attachment for treking poles so you don't have to keep taking the rucksack on and off when you want the poles

Do any other manufacturers have a similar fitment?

So Friday I did go and buy one

seems to be very well made, waterproofish material, and good zip pockets. Side stretch pockets for water/juice on side. Will try it out next weekend.

Liked the Lowe Alpine one then tried some others.
REALLY liked the new Osprey Stratos 26 - the Stow on the Go pole stash is very neat - sold it for me. £100 though.
Ended up getting last year's for £62 from Blacks. Hip belt actually sits on my hips - before buying it I tried the L.A again - hip belt was 4 inches above my hips.
Easy decision in the end. First proper wear will be Edale next weekend. The pole stash will be very handy doing Blencathra and Helvellyn on consecutive days in June.

To get an idea if this would fit me would you mind telling me how tall you are.
Thanks.

Best get rascal to tell you what size he got too. Osprey do two back sizes small/medium and medium/large.

Hi

I'm 6'-6' 1" (I'm told that extra inch is very important).
I went for the M/L.

I have the same size of this bag and I'm 6'4". I feel it fits me well too so it seems there's a decent amount of play in them.

Assuming you are talking about the Osprey Stratos 26 pack this YouTube video may help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy4gs3PHlws

With Osprey packs it's not about being tall or short it's the length of your back that the important thing. You don't need the fancy measuring tool shown in the video. Just use a tape measure to measure between the two points shown to know which back length size will fit you.

The Sirrus 26 is the women specific version of the Stratus 26 http://www.joe-brown.com/20969/products/osprey-sirrus-26l-womens-pack.aspx
