Scafell Sept 9th 2017
« on: 10:04:06, 23/02/17 »
Hi, when I was with a walking group 2010 to 2014, twice we were planned to do Scafell Pike, but stopped because of the bad weather.

So I and some of my friends from that group have become interested in the Marie Curie climb up Scafell Pike on Sept 9th.  I doubt if any of us will drive up there so would appreciate any help and knowledge anyone can give us regards, trains buses and campsites.  The walk will indeed start at Seathwaite Farm where there is a campsite where  we would like to camp, but are there any bus stops, shops pubs or cafes within walking distance of that. I could catch a train at Peterborough, travelling there from kings lynn by bus.  (bus passes are great, aren`t they?)

Thanks   Ed.

Train to Penrith, Bus to Keswick, Bus to Seatoller, then roughly a mile walk to Seathwaite.

Enjoy

It's the other Seathwaite - the one in Borrowdale.

Bus to Keswick from either Windermere or Penrith then the 77 or 78 to Seatoller. From there the Seathwaite campsite is about 1.5 miles on foot. It is quite a long way from there to the nearest pubs in Stonethwaite or Rosthwaite. There is a decent campsite nearer the pubs - Chapel House Farm - but then you have a few miles to the start at Seathwaite.

As for Pubs you could check with the Glaramara centre, back near the bus stop. They are an Outdoor Centre and are expanding to cater for general public but it will depend on which clients are in the centre. Sometimes they have Weddings etc that take the whole centre.

Theres the Langstrath pub at Stonethwaite. Best to check its Website for openings etc a little bit further along the road.

Maybe stock up with a carry out at Booths Supermarket that is next to the Central Bus Station in Keswick. CAMRA Award winning beer selection.

Thankyou  Percy and Pura Vida.  I just logged timetable fom kings lynn 4 buses and 3 trains,  arriving at  keswick at 17,04  and would you believe the last bus to seatoller left 30 mins ago.  Derrrrr.   unless they have a summer timetable that includes sept.

thanks for tip about the beer at keswick, however we dont drink, (well very little) but could stock up with food there I guess. I asked about pubs for our evening meal really.......

The summer bus timetables will be published in a month or so and I think they do run later to Seatoller.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the food at Glaramara as I stayed/guided from there many times.

Give them a call or e mail to book a meal.
