Fairfield ascent query
« on: 18:29:06, 06/03/17 »
I'm not that keen on walking on scree. If I climbed Fairfield from Grisedale Tarn, is there anyway the scree can be avoided? Also, how long would it normally take to ascend Fairfield from the tarn? Thanks, Henry

Yes, there's a path that goes up to Deepdale Hause and you can then double back over Cofa Pike to Fairfield.

Thanks Strider, does that approach involve airy scrambling on an exposed ridge? Thanks, Henry

Hmm, well the path skirts round one side so it depends how you feel about a steep-ish drop on one side.  It's not as bad as it looks from a distance but if you get bad vertigo you might want to avoid it unless you have company.

I descended the scree from Fairfield to Grisedale Tarn and didn't think it was that bad, I don't recall slipping about the same way as I've done on other scree slopes and usually going up is easier.

Only taken the scree path down once, a few years ago.  been on Fairfield many times since by always by other routes, best being over St. Sunday Crag or along Dovedale.
