Walk suggestions near Paignton Devon
« on: 09:39:45, 22/03/18 »
I'm visiting Paignton for a birthday party the last weekend in April.
While there I quite fancied taking the opportunity to walk somewhere new.
Not knowing the area at all I wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Ideally I'd be looking for something 5-10 miles, not too worried about the terrain but I'm a walker not a scrambler nor moutaineer, but would be nice to be on an easy to follow trail.

Any suggestions?

What about some of the South West Coast Path between Kingswear and Dawlish?  The public transport in this area of Devon is good, facilitating linear coastal walks.

My suggestion would be to look at walks in the South Hams area, around Salcombe. There are some fabulous coastal walks with no scrambling involved. There are some free route descriptions on my website

The South West Coastal Path  from Paignton to Brixham is about 6 miles and very picturesque . Quite a few hills and steps but is well signposted.

If you like fish and chips try Rockfish or Simply Fish in Brixham for some really fresh local fish.

Another vote for the coast path - around the Coleton Fishacre area is just gorgeous. If you are a National Trust member (or happy to spend on the entrance fee) a lovely walk is to park at Coleton Fishacre and walk down through the gardens and onto the coast path. By turning either right or left along the cliffs you can do a circular walks though there are steep bits whichever way you walk.
So many paths, so little time

Yes, I agree with Jac and the others who recommend the SW Coast Path around Coleton Fishacre.  You could do a coastal walk (there and back) from Kingswear to Coleton Fishacre which is probably about 8 miles of relatively stiff coastal paths, well signed and with stunning views.  Lots of nature and history too.  It's also possible to return to Kingswear by an inland path. You can see a circular walk we did in this area here.

The coast from Kingswear past Coleton Fishacre is the most attractive, but it is strenuous with a lots of ups and downs. You can do it as a linear walk using the local buses, with access to Brixham, Hill Top and Kingswear, but not in between. You can also get the train from paignton to Kingswear and the bus back from Hill Top, or Brixham.

There are car parks either side of Coleton Fishacre and circular walks that include the coast of just about any length you want.
We did a circular walk from Coleton Camp on the 23rd, and the Garden is looking lovely. See our track and photos here:
