Looking for shoes
« on: 12:11:40, 10/07/18 »
I'm looking for all year round mile munching shoes, not boots around 100.  I also have wide fitting feet.

Any recommendations please?

TIA

Blacks, Millets & Ultimate Outdoors seem to be taking turns with the available offer prices.

Try chucking some in the basket and use the code TAKE15 or SALE15 at checkout. From what I can see I think the special offer prices end tonight.

if you've wide feet then you might find Keen brand worth trying on. Also some Merrells can be nicely wide.

I've got very wide duck feet so I need a wide toebox and I struggle but I've had some luck with these brands.

Ultimately, the best shoes are the ones that fit best so you wanna get down to some shops and try a load on.

I was looking at some Merrells moabs. They seem to come up in top 10's a lot. I would like something goretex if I can get them under 100

Personally I think shoe reviews are generally a bit worthless. The reviewers rarely wear them for long periods and don't have your feet.

With reference to the Oboz shoes, I bought the non membrane Sawtooth shoes today from Ultimate for 56 down from 100. They are giving away vouchers at the door for a extra 20% off sale items. I have a pair of Oboz Sawtooth boots and they have been excellent.

I wouldn't get too fixated on specifically looking for shoes with a Gore-Tex lining. Gore-Tex is just the best known of all the waterproof liners out there simply down to numbers and the length of  time it has been used by manufacturers. B-Dry (as used by Oboz) and Sympatex (as used by Altberg and others) are just other types of waterproof lining used by other manufacturers and there are other types of waterproof liners out there. All are very similar to Gore-Tex, work in the same way and perform similarly and are no doubt much cheaper than Gore-Tex. They all work in the same way to prevent water from entering the boot from the outside and allowing moisture vapour (sweat) out from the inside of the boot (breathability).

All waterproof linings will eventually wear out and fail  at some point during the life of the boot either from dirt or grit particles blocking pores in the liner or rubbing through the inside of the boot or get punctured by a toenail, twig or thorn. Some brands will last longer than others but they will all eventually fail at some point.

Just looking on Ultimate Outdoors website and the 20% OFF offer is now also available online. https://www.ultimateoutdoors.com/s:oboz/

This is why I look for non  membrane shoes especially at this time of year because the claims of breathability by Gore Tex etc  do not in my opinion, work. I have had a few days walking ruined  because of this but never with non lined footwear.
