Patterdale YHA may have been an easier place to stay but Helvellyn does feel much more traditional.

Youíre absolutely right Mark, I hadnít stayed in either, but Helvellyn was cheaper. In hindsight for a little more, Patterdale would have been the better option and one Iíll try again.

However, the whole experience up in the Helvellyn hostel was...........different?
Especially the menís shower for two.
Thankfully I had it all to myself!!!  :o   ;D

Cracking write up Jontea - really enjoyed that - I love walking from St Sunday towards Fairfield and Grisedale Tarn - walking into such great scenery.

Great report. I liked your photo of the day. It is interesting to read about different routes up a mountain. I have only been up via Striding Edge / Swirral Edge and from the Lower Man direction.

I thought the length of the report and the number of photos was just right to describe your day.
