Newbie. Need help uploading photos
« on: 03:21:46, 09/03/19 »
I clicked on the "insert image" icon in the toolbar ad drug my thumbnail photos to it but after I posted all I saw were tiny blue boxes with a [?] inside.

What's the secret or do all photos have to be vetted by a moderator 1st?

You need to upload your photos to a host site such as Flickr or image shack first. Then copy and paste the link to your post.

Hosting images on the websites server takes up space and obviously space costs money and increases the cost of running the website. To keep costs down images need to be hosted on external image hosting websites to keep running costs down.

In simple terms you need to choose from one of the many free image hosting websites and upload your photos from your PC or tablet to the free image hosting website. There's plenty to choose from and a quick google will probably find dozens more https://www.lifewire.com/free-image-hosting-sites-3486329

A couple of very easy to use ones are

https://postimage.org/

https://imgsafe.org/

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/

Once you have uploaded the photo you are given a link (http web address) to where a copy of your image has been stored. You can then copy and paste that link into your post by clicking on the insert image icon and pasting in the link. When someone views your post on here the image is automatically downloaded from the image hosting website's server and it appears in your post.

I use imgbb.com for image hosting - website nice and simple; no clutter or advertising.

No charge and it is painless...I use tinypic. Make sure you delete (img) off the front and end of link that is produced

That looks like a good site.  So much so I just joined.  Hopefully now I can post up some pictures here.  O0

Having previously used tinypic as an image hosting site, I became increasingly frustrated with pop-ups and ads.

I've now registered with imgbb, and managed to upload photo's, but when I copy and paste the http address into a post here, I just see the link and not the actual image when viewing the preview, whereas with tinypic I could see the actual image in preview.

Could anyone here who uses imgbb please tell me where I am going wrong.

Cheers.

When you paste the link, I believe you have to delete img of the front end of it...

G&P, this is what I'm getting. There is no img at the front end.

I've no idea why it's copied twice either.

If you press the insert image button and delete the https which appears automatically then insert the the full address location of the image it will work

You need to insert the full address location of the image i.e. https:// i.ibb.co/58g0v0N/DSC01830.jpg (without the gap before the first i) NOT the shortcut address to the image location https://ibb.co/pzB7Z7t you will get this

Nope. I'm still not getting it. I expected to see the image as opposed to just the link.

Are you clicking on the Insert Image button (the one directly inderneath the B (Bold) button) before deleting the automatic https:// and inserting the full address to the image?

I just tried that and all that appeared was a tiny black square with an x in it.

Apologies kinkyboots, to me this is techie stuff, and I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to techie stuff.
