Yesterday saw the first crystal clear in the Mournes for four months, the winter seemed to drag on forever. I only had time for a short walk so decided upon Slieve Muck from Dears meadow. The summit is gained by following the Mourne wall. The ascent is steep in places and marshy in the lower regions but as height was gained the ground became harder as I encountered frosty conditions. Slieve Muck occupies a central location in the Mournes sandwiched between the higher eastern peaks and lower western peaks. Upon gaining the summit I counted all the mountains in view - 39 in total. If you are ever on the summit don't stop at the trig point, go the the stiles in the Mourne wall and head towards the east to get the best views.

Lovely photos of lovely mountains, Henry.

We're planning a holiday in Northern Ireland this summer, a toss up between the Mourne Mountains and the Ballycastle area (and no I am not into Game of Thrones).
