How do you spot those professionally written reviews.
By the correct usage of English.

Defined by who?

19th century Oxford dons or the hundreds of years of previously written texts.

Henry Watson Fowler and that should be "Defined by whom?"

Who squeezed a hybrid language into Latin Grammar, and ignored hundreds of years of normal usage.
Use of who or whom depends upon whether referring to subject or object of the verb in the statement.  :D Get back to your Torygraph crosswords.  ;D

I know and that "who" is an object so accusative in my book, dative at a pinch  ;) .

No - woe is me.  It is a dative construction (https://www.arrantpedantry.com/2015/02/11/why-is-it-woe-is-me/)

Recently rejoined the forum after deciding the topics may have changed. Still the same people spouting the same pretentious drivel as before. I expected a forum about walking & gear related topics, not rants about the use of the English language. No need to reply as the forum has been deleted.

Wow - take a look in the mirror before you accuse others of ranting.

No worries - you asked me for my opinion.  My view is that if the boot is covered in carp you can't see the quality of the product e.g. stitching or material, properly.  Boots are an expensive purchase so should be looked after IMHO, if you don't appear to care for the boot, how valid is your opinion?  Presenting a mucky boot is a bit like turning up scruffy for an interview - implies you don't care.

yes Ninth Ace a shoal of Carp would certainly obscure the Stitching and definitely the Sole, as it is a bottom feeder.

God I'm becoming as much a Pedant as U :)
