TR A Windy Walk from Wooler Sat 7 Mar 20
« on: 19:29:04, 09/03/20 »
Our walk started from the Caravan Park at Riverside, we didn't bother with the car. We walked into the town centre of Wooler and headed up toward Wooler Common following St Cuthert's Way by Waud Hause and over Kenterdale Hill.

It was very windy and had been overnight. Rain threatened now and again but never amounted to much during the walk. We'd stopped for some lunch behind the information point in the Wooler Common Car Park. We thought it might be the only place we could get shelter!

Looking back at our route

To the left of this shot we could see a weather front coming in. We had planned to follow St Cuthberts Way a little further by Gains Law and Black Law but the wind was getting stronger so we turned off right on a footpath that goes around Humbleton Hill.

It was nice to have the wind behind us as we dropped down.

We had a brief respite from the wind on this side of the hill.

There were a lot of ups and down on this walk so even though we hadn't done any summits we still had some good exercise. We rejoined St Cuthberts Way back to the Wooler Common Car Park but walked back to Wooler on the road. We stocked up on provisions in the Coop, we were hungry and we needed extra food!

Our walk was Riverside - Wooler - St Cuthberts Way - Kenterdale Hill - Wooler Common Car Park - near Gains Law - footpath to Humbleton - Wooler Common Car Park - Wooler - Riverside. 7.75 miles and 450m ascent.

Great TR.  Great photo. Obviously, I think you can't get many better places to walk.

Thanks for taking the time to write the reports.

Nice photos, April - I really don't know the Cheviot hills, although I have visited the coast a few times in the past.

Thanks jimbob but I don't think we should be telling everyone  :D

Nice photos, April - I really don't know the Cheviot hills

They are great Richard, I love the hills on the border ridge and there are great places to base yourself to do some fantastic walks. Alwinton, Barrowburn, Wooler, Kirk Yetholm. There are many more!

I'll drink to that!  :)

I will drink to anything  :D

Yep, enjoyed reading that too  :)   Sometimes the walks with lots of ups and downs but little in the way of "summits" can leave you feeling more tired, I think, anyway.

No expense spared in pursuit of a bargain ;)

Just picked up on this - looks like you had way better weather over there - good choice!  And lovely walking country.

How did you find the pods - we've stayed in a couple and have found them more claustrophobic than a tent.

Thanks Mel, sunnydale and pdstsp  O0

The pod was much bigger than our MSR's so we thought it was luxury  :D
