I just checked and seems you're right, pretty tough and worth picking up if you want something cheap and cheerful though.  Only aluminum set I can recommend (other than the Trangia pans, which I'm quite partial to)  would be the Primus heat-exchanger pots, but they aren't cheap.  I'm sure any outdoor gear store stocks alu cooking kit though and many of them should be running sales at the moment.

Could you please provide links to small aluminium pots.. No doubt a 50 titanium pot is good, but I (and my wife too, I guess) couldn't justify the cost

I haven't been able to find an aluminium mug online, but loads of pots available.
In fact, most camping cookware is made of aluminium. Here's a few:

A pouring lip could be quite easily produced by a gentle tap with a hammer and chisel  O0

Hmm - wouldn't try that on an expensive titanium pot!

MSR Alpine Stowaway pot is really good for 2-person use.  Aluminium is better for cooking food than titanium anyway (doesn't have distinct hot spots which burns, as richard says)  - the folding handle which secures it all together makes it simple.  Believe they come in varying sizes, 775ml/1.1l and upwards.

I actually put up a posting a few days about Zebra SS pots, but the consensus amongst folk here (far far more experienced than me) was that they were too heavy

Another Zebra product looks a bit like the NSR you linked to

Here's the link to the Zebra lunchbox .. https://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/zebra-14cm-lunchbox---a-brilliant-stainless-steel-cooking-pot-19637-p.asp

Thanks wb.  I like the billy cans with a pale on that site, makes me think of roaring fires and gentle cooking with a group of friends once we're back to normal.

Much of my camping gear is UL and 1-person focused but there's always room for slightly heavier kit when you're bringing things for 2+ I think.  Particularly if you want to do some actual cooking versus just warming water.

and then checked back here to see loads of ideas had come in - so thanks for all that. I did think about creating a wooden former to create a slight deformation at the top also?

In the back of my mind I was thinking of an item that could be used to a) boil water b) use as mug c) heat / eat food from d) store spirit stove etc

If you have not bought one yet have you considered looking on the AliExpress site, loads of choice. Delivery from China on nearly everything I've ordered has averaged out at 10 days.

cpcnw - I also choose my mug / pot to do all those jobs (though some better than others, it's all a compromise)

I found this which may be of interest. No need to take the coffee filter part if you want to save weight.

If you already have the mug and want a foldable coffee filter to fit most mugs have a look at Speedster Stoves at the one they offer at 5.50 + post.

No pouring spout, but I just bought one of THESE.

16.40 for a 650ml Lixada titanium mug with lid and net bag, Chinese manufacture but UK seller.

If I want any titanium stuff I usually look at the Lixada range first, good quality & well priced.

Thank you for the links

I have seen these sets (not Vango branded, but very similar) for 10 on ebay and about 7 on AliExpress, both prices including delivery.

I just wonder if for example these are better, for say cooking a pasta meal or the titanium. The cleaning afterwards also important.

Also, the top / small pot looks a bit clumsy, a flat-type lid would do me

In my experience Alu is certainly easier to clean after cooking food, I try to use the titanium pot to boil water only. Generally I discard the lids and have a piece of thickish foil to fit on top (as can also be used for a windshield).
