I find that my stainless thermos does a pretty good job, but I'm not sure it wold qualify as 'hot' after 8 hours, maybe 'very warm'.
The Stanley flask range has an excellent reputation, they claim 'hot' upto 24 hours. I have had one, but it got 'borrowed'.

In my experience, the smaller sizes retain heat for less time.

This video has a good comparison test in terms of heat retention - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjDjqLh7MpA&noredirect=1

Reading reviews on Amazon seems to suggest that Stanley are not as good as Thermos, people seem very happy with this one.

I have a live adventure flask, it keeps my drinks hot for up to 12 hours but I wouldn't say its any better than a regular thermos flask.
its going to be a fine day today

Couple years back i was given a Go-outdoors Hi-gear flask(£9.99) for xmas that performs at least equal to my Coleman,Stanley flasks which cost well over £20...... Also i have never owned a flask from any company that kept drinks hot for 8hours, 5hours maybe but not 8

I think the difficulty is that once you open the flask for the first drink, the cool air enters the vessel and has an effect on the hot drink. If you don't open it, you have more chance of keeping the drink hotter for longer. Perhaps take 2 smaller flasks is the answer...?

I  think with a flask that the best option is to just carry boiling water in it and make your drink up when you're ready, this helps. Also keeping the flask in an upright position as most of the heat is lost through the lid  O0

As several people have already mentioned no flasks will keep the fluid hot all day. What i have done is i carry to small flasks that i prewarm with boiling water before i put my coffee in. The milk in the coffee will be heated to boiling point as well. Both my flasks also have the remains of an old sleeping mat stuck around the outside to further insulate it.

I had a lifeventure one (doh! left it in Pwll Deri YHA) from Blacks and it worked pretty well as long as you thoroughly warmed it as per instructions before filling with your hot drink. I have tried others since but never got a good result from a stainless steel one so have resorted to my old glass lined thermos which works better than anything else. It also depends where it is in the pack and cools quicker in the outer pockets than in the main body of the pack where it will be more insulated and out of the wind.
